Island Peak is known as Imja Tse. Similarly, it lies in the mountains in Sagarmatha National Park of the Himalayas in eastern Nepal. Island Peak Climbing is one of the famous peak climbing in Nepal. The name of the peak was given by the members of the British Mount Everest expedition in 1953 A.D. This name was given to the peak because it appears as an island in a sea of ice when viewed from Dingboche.
Island Peak is a very difficult challenge. Most of the people fail to reach the summit. The total height of the mountain is 6189 meters/20305 feet above sea level. Furthermore, the peak is located in the picturesque Imja Valley in the Everest region only a few miles from Mount Everest. Similarly, Island Peak is highly famous after peaks in the world.

The Difficulty of Island Peak Climbing

Firstly, you should have all the essentials with you. Secondly, you should always carry extras of everything in case you might need them. There are three different itineraries for climbing the island. But, the most popular among them is the route that includes the Everest base camp. The best time for Island Peak Climbing is in autumn and spring. This season provides you with a very ideal climate and weather. Similarly, the weather is stable with clear visibility of the views. But, the expedition is also possible in winter and monsoon season.

TripItinerary
Arrive at Kathmandu [1345m/4411ft] and transfer to Hotel.
First, your airport arrival representative will pick you from Tribhuvan International Airport on schedule. Then you will be transferred to the concerned hotel and the staff there will help you until the day you leave. You can either rest in a hotel or travel to Kathmandu city in your free time.
Kathmandu : Trip preparation 1,350m/4,429ft
On day two you will leave the hotel and start preparing for the trip.
Fly to Lukla then trek to Phakding 2,800m/9,187ft 3-4 hrs
Today you will take a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla which takes around 30-35 minutes. From Lukla, your trek starts that follows a gentle climb through the left bank of Dudh Koshi. Passing through different mini walls before reaching ghat. After, our trek continues with a small path, many climbs, and leaves following the left bank of Dudh Koshi to Phakding.
Phakding to Namche Bazaar 3,438m/11,280ft 5-6 hrs
Now, from Phakding, we continue our trek crossing the stream and climbing up the hill until we reach Bengar. We continue the trek with a lot of ups and downs, we also visit the national park. After a short distance along the Bhote Khosi river, we begin the steep ascent to Namche Bazaar. The mountain path there is all zigzag. We come to our resting area from where the beautiful view of Mt. Everest is seen. After that, we will climb a little and go through the pine forest to reach the Namche Bazaar.
Namche Bazaar : Acclimatization Day 3,438m/11,280ft
After reaching Namche bazaar we start exploring it. Which is called sherpa capital. Namche Bazaar has a lot of tea houses, lodges, and shops. It is the best place to rest and acclimatize before heading towards high altitudes. After that, we go to Syangboche at 3800m which has an outstanding view of Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, etc.
Namche Bazaar to Tengboche 3,870m/12,697ft 5-6 hrs
After spending a good day exploring and resting at Namche Bazaar. Today we will continue our journey to reach Tengboche. To the right, there is a steep cliff that drops down to Bhote Koshi which provides a beautiful view of the valley below. We pass through the village of Transhinga to reach Tengboche. The first half of the climb is steep. But, as we climb through the forested zone the way gets easy and we see a splendid view of the surroundings. We continue our journey and climb the mountainside to reach the gate of lamas which marks our entry to Tengboche.
Tengboche to Pheriche 4,288m/14,069ft 4-5 hrs
After leaving Thyangboche we will continue the trail and gradually ascend through the mountain path, enjoying the great view of the surroundings. After we continue the uphill trek through a Chorten-lined route and climb slowly. On our way, we pass the village to a big mani stupa. From there the walk is easy all the way to Pheriche.
Pheriche to Lobuche 4,940m/16,208ft 5-6 hrs
From Pheriche, we will continue the journey to the Lobuche base camp. It is a 6010m mountain. After a fairly leisurely trek along the valley of Pheriche, we will follow the trail which is wrapped around the large hill on our way. We will see Lobuche base camp and rest there.
Lobuche to Gorak Shep, visit Everest Base Camp 5,364m/17,599ft 6-7 hrs
After resting in Lobuche we head to Gorak shep which is the last stop before Everest Base Camp. Every trekker spends a night at Gorak shep but we will visit Everest Base Camp, through a rocky path which takes around 6-7 hours in total. And, of course, we will take breaks in between.
Gorak Shep to Kala Patthar and back to Lobuche 5,545m/18,193ft 7-8 hrs
After visiting EBC we will come back to Gorak Shep and start our trek to Kala Patthar through a path full of rocks and stones. The sunset from the place is beautiful. After resting at Kala Patthar we head back to Lobuche for our further journey.
Lobuche to Kongma La to Chhukung 4,730m/15,519ft 6-7 hrs
From Lobuche, we travel to the kong la ma pass which is the highest of the three passes crossing over 5535 meters. At that much high altitude, you only get 52% of oxygen. Which makes the trekking harder so we continue slowly. After viewing stunning views of mountains at kong ma la we continue our journey to Chukkung through uphill climbs.
Chhukung to Island Peak base camp 5,200m/17,061ft 3-4 hrs
After reaching Chhukung and resting there. We head toward the Island Base Camp from the altitude of 4750 toward an altitude of 5200 at the Island Peak Base Camp. The trail from Chhukung to Island Base Camp is rocky and steep.
Pre-climb training on Island Peak Base Camp 5,200m/17,061ft
After reaching the island peak base camp from Chhukung. You will have pre-climb training at the island base camp.
Island Peak Base Camp to Island Peak summit, back to base camp 6,189m/20,306ft
Today we start early to achieve the summit of the island peak. Noon is the best time to reach the summit. Otherwise, the strong wind after midday can create obstacles for us. We will cross several crevasses and overcome technical sections with the use of ropes, ice axes, harnesses, and other climbing equipment. We will follow every guideline that the climbing expert provides us with. Finally, we will achieve the summit of the island peak which is physically and mentally tough for us all. After reaching the summit we will see a charismatic view of Mt Lhotse 8501m, Mt. Makalu 8475m, Lhotse middle peak 8410m, Lhotse Shar 8383m, mt Nuptse 7879m, Mt Baruntse 7129m, and other high peaks. After achieving the summit we will slowly head back for Island Base Camp.
lsand Peak Base Camp to Pangboche 3,985m/13,075ft 5-6 hrs
After successfully reaching the island peak summit. We head back through the same trail from the Island Peak Base camp to Pangboche.
Pangboche to Namche Bazaar 3,438m/11,280ft 4-5 hrs
After reaching Pangboche we head back to Namche Bazaar crossing different forests and up-hill climbs and we will continue the trail that leads us back to Namche Bazaar.
Namche Bazaar to Lukla 2,800m/9,187ft 6-7 hrs
The last day of our climbing trek leads from Namche bazaar, through Monjo to Lukla. The trek is easy except for some short uphill climbs including the uphill climb that brings us back to Lukla.
Fly to Kathmandu 1,350m/4,429ft
We will take a very early flight in the morning. Enjoy the scenic mountain flight after a wonderful experience at the Island Base Camp and Island Peak. You can either relax or spend your day walking down the streets of Kathmandu city.
